Chaos to Complexity: Where do art and science meet?

The Museum of Contemporary Native Arts (MoCNA) and the Santa Fe Institute (SFI) explore the creative process in art and science through a discussion between SFI Professor Jennifer Dunne and artist Shan Goshorn (Eastern Band of Cherokee), moderated by SFI’s Valerie Plame. The opening reception for Shan Goshorn’s current exhibition, We Hold These Truths, will be held following this program from 4 – 5 p.m.

Shan Goshorn is a concept-based artist. Her recent work incorporates traditional Cherokee basket weaving. She received her BFA from the Cleveland Institute of Art/Atlanta College of Art. She has exhibited both in the United States and abroad and her work can be found in numerous museum collections. Goshorn resides in Tulsa, Oklahoma.

Jennifer A. Dunne is the Chair of Faculty and Vice President for Science at the Santa Fe Institute, where she has been on the faculty since 2007. Jennifer’s research interests are in analysis, modeling, and theory related to the organization, dynamics, and function of ecosystems. Much of this work focuses on ecological networks, in particular food webs, which specify the complex feeding interactions among species in a given habitat.
