State Standards and the Informal Science Education Community
New Mexico is implementing Common Core standards for Mathematics and English/Language Arts and is considering adoption of the Next Generation Science Standards. These standards are already starting major shifts in instruction, curriculum and assessment that will impact every K-12 student and teacher as well as those organizations and programs that serve a K-12 audience. What are the implications of these standards for the Informal Science Education community in New Mexico? How can program providers align their offerings with the standards and communicate that alignment to stakeholders? How can program providers use the standards to inform program development and strengthen partnerships with schools and districts? What role can Informal Science Educators play in successful implemenation of standards?
Join us for a one-day session at the Whitfield Wildlife Conservation Area in Belen to engage in an exploration of these questions. Participants will gain a basic understanding of both CCSS and NGSS, have an opportunity to learn about how others have addressed the standards, and be part of a community of practice of like-minded professionals.
