The STEM Advancement Program (STEMAP) engages students from New Mexico regional universities, community colleges and tribal colleges in the research funded by New Mexico EPSCoR. This summer, students will participate in a week of workshops at New Mexico Tech on energy topics and scientific research and spent eight weeks working with New Mexico EPSCoR-funded faculty and students on cutting edge research that is important to New Mexico. The summer program concludes with the STEMAP Student Research Conference on July 30 at which the students present their results.

Interdisciplinary Innovation Working Groups (I-IWG) provide a venue for researchers, educators, and nationally recognized experts to address grand challenges that require an interdisciplinary approach to transform science. I-IWG support (up to $7500) is aimed at working groups that emphasize the collaborative development and testing of important ideas and theories, cutting-edge analysis of recent or existing data and information, the use of sound science policy and management decisions, and investigation of social issues that pertain to energy development that minimizes impacts on water and the environment.

Jamie Bell will present an overview of the Center for the Advancement of Informal Science Education (CAISE) and informalscience.org, an online community and collection of informal STEM learning projects, evaluation, and research resources. He will characterize the current state of Informal Science Education (ISE) Networks, describe CAISE’s role in convening ISE Networks, and invite discussion about further directions for and research on ISE Networks.

Hear the story of the state’s fossils from an expert on fossil mammals from the last 35 million years, Curator of Paleontology Gary Morgan, and learn what they can tell us about New Mexico’s past.

With support from the Google CS4HS program, Santa Fe Institute’s Project GUTS: Growing Up Thinking Scientifically is offering a free online course that provides eight weeks of free online instruction to educators who are interested in embedding computer science within regular school day science classes through the integration of computer modeling and simulation.

This all-day Water Innovation Summit will bring together stakeholders from around New Mexico to discuss strategies and technologies to protect our state’s valuable water resources. The summit will be held at the University of New Mexico. Read more for the registration link.
